I am an expression of the universe, just like everything else around me and inside me.
Your body is born, and then your brain as it grows gives rise to a full consciousness. Your level of consciousness is proportional to your brain’s development, and as we grow up we become more aware of our world and our self. Our consciousness is as its highest state when our prefrontal cortex is fully developed, this part of the brain is what basically separates us from the other animals, although animals may be conscious but to a smaller degree. As we developed this prefrontal cortex, we were more able to control our emotions and reason, but these abilities require constant use, just like a muscle.
As the physical body ages (including the brain), our consciousness seems to fade little by little up until the brain can no longer give rise to our consciousness. This process leads us to were we came from initially, to the so called nothingness or void. Keep in mind that consciousness doesn’t have to cease with the body, it can be lost before the body dies, this happens to those with Alzheimer’s disease or those in a permanent vegetative state. It’s amazing to realize that we lose consciousness every day temporarily when we get to a deep sleep, in this state we can’t experience anything, this is why we can’t remember about it and call it nothingness.
Not getting what you want is good for you because it means you’ll have to fight for it. Getting it easy always ends in not appreciating what you got and then wanting for some other thing you don’t have. Because we are always moving toward the things that are lacking in us, we live in constant becoming.
